Spacial theorist Yi-Fu Tuan writes “Space and place are basic components of lived world; we take them for granted. When we think about them, however, they may assume unexpected meanings and raise questions we have not thought to ask…What ways do people attach meaning to and organize space and place?” (Tuan 3).
To understand how people have attached different meanings to the Century III Mall throughout the years, I am interviewing people about their personal experiences at the mall. I plan to include the audio from these interviews in the game world to show the player what the Century III Mall meant and how these meanings changed from the mall's opening to its eventual closure and abandonment.
To interview, you do not need to travel to the University of Pittsburgh Campus in Oakland, Pittsburgh, but if you choose to interview in person there will be one short interview session with the game designer, Jacqueline Haggerty. If permitted, we will use the audio recording of the interview for the game. Click here to sign up for an in person interview.
If interviewing in person does not work for you, we are also offering the option to interview via online teleconferencing or phone. Click here to sign up for an online interview.
